Creativity is free(dom)

In the year of 2020 started the period of social isolation because of a vírus, and many people found themselves unemployed for a few months. The need to consume art is inherent to the humans, since even to sweep the house we need to listen to a song, or an afternoon with nothing to do, we like to watch a movie on Netflix. Differently to Shakespeare, that came out of quarantine with an artwork ready (King Lear), in Brazil, today there are no monetary inputs for art, especially in a period of health crisis. There are other priorities at the moment. However, creativity is free.

I believe that a lot of artistic content, like music, painting, poetry, or even the idea of a film, can be born in this period. This moment of isolation generated many questions about the future and the world on me. From these questions, art becomes with a desire to express our feelings. What makes a true artist is creativity, unique ideas, but in fact, quarantine came to many people as a good thing and to many others as a bad thing, artistically speaking. Some people developed art more easily and others had a block of creativity.

Many people in this period of isolation begin to feel alone and then developed new artistic hobbies, like drawing, painting a wall. Besides that, many people had a time to go back to their hobbies that spend time, such as reading books, or starting an online course they’ve always wanted to do. For example, I took a chance on embroidery, and I discovered that art is freedom. However, it is not making art that, in fact, we are valuing art. This is just a way to escape the day without noticing the lack of social contact and being productive at the same time.

As an example, Fernanda Torres and Fernanda Montenegro, mother and daughter, started to record a series for Globo called “Amores remotos”, where the mother lies to her daughter who did not finish the quarantine because they approached in this period of isolation and the mother wanted to stay close to her daughter. The series has no release date because it needs all the media for this.

Therefore, for creation, it doesn’t need much input, but for the production and promotion it requires to a patronage, and that is where the problems begins. Many of these artists have a starting capital, but many people have suffered a lot of losses for not having their arts purchased (individual producers). I think that in this period of crisis of COVID19 the need is to focus on health, but a kind of help should have been provided for these artists to be able to remain in the period of isolation, already that their arts cannot be exhibited and many of them need money to feed their families.
